Recycling

What happens to your recycled rubbish?

  • The paper is washed, made into pulp, then dried out to make new paper.

  • Glass is crushed and melted to make new glass or crushed for building uses.

  • Cans are melted and made into new cans.

  • Plastics are granulated and melted to make new bottles, seats and even clothes.

  • Clothes are sent to poor countries, sold in charity shops or shredded for cloths.

Did you know that, on average, every household throws away 1 tonne of rubbish each year? The majority of this rubbish (over 80%) could be recycled or reused. This part of the site is aimed at both teachers and pupils who want to learn more about how we can tackle the growing problem of too much rubbish.
