North Tyneside schools need you!
Would you like to consider becoming a parent governor?
The start of a new year is the ideal opportunity to
start a new venture and meet an exciting challenge. Would you like to consider becoming a parent governor in a North Tyneside
School? If you have children in a North Tyneside School and there are
vacancies in that school for parent governors, now would be an ideal time
to do something about it.
What do governors do?
If you have considered being a parent governor but were not sure of what
was involved, think about it now! Governing bodies are very important
in the decision-making processes with regard to the progression of schools
and the raising of standards of achievement for all pupils.
Governors make a tremendous contribution. They are actively involved
in the recruitment and selection of staff, overseeing the budget, the
development of new buildings or resources such as Information & Communications
Technology, as well as much, much more.
Governing bodies are working, often behind the scenes, to make sure that
their school is working to be the best it can be, and more. They work
closely with the Headteacher and Staff and share with them a vision for
the school.
What qualifications do I need to be a governor?
North Tyneside School Governors come from very different walks of life.
They have very different skills and expertise to share. They often have
different interests and different priorities in education. One thing they
do all share, however, is a firm commitment and a strong desire to raise
standards of education for all children, young people and adults in North
Tyneside. If you feel you have these two essential qualities, then consider
becoming a parent governor.
What help will I get?
While it takes personal commitment to become a good governor, a support
team is there to help all governors develop their skills and every governor’s
contribution is welcomed. The rewards for this commitment will be that
you will know you are positively contributing to raising standards of
education for everyone in North Tyneside.
