Terry Deary

Terry Deary, renowned for his 'Horrible Histories' now hits the web. The man himself says, 'I wanted a site that would interest kids in history and writing, and involve them.'

With ghoulish games, quizzes and opportunities for students to publish their stories online, it looks like he has succeeded!

Westall's War

Robert Westall is a local author, studied by KS2 / KS3 students. He grew up in North Shields and his father was an air raid warden during the second World War.

This web site is about the dreadful bombing of a public air raid shelter under Wilkinson's Lemonade Factory in North Shields. A wonderful collection of archive resources allow students to explore this very human tragedy.

The site includes a searchable database of the people who died in this disaster. Students can also read extracts from Westall's work relating to this event. A must for the History Class.

The Matthew Project

The web site of the Matthew Project - this was a replica ship which recreated Cabot's voyage of discovery to Newfoundland.

John Cabot

Factual site with some interesting links. Includes a transcription of documentary evidence such as the patent granted by Henry VII to John Cabot and his sons in 1496, and several letters.

The site centres on the Battles of Stamford Bridge and Hastings as well as the causes of the conflict itself.
